Shotgun Start Guidelines:
  • Our 2022 MetroSquash Golfing for Graduates will be a ‘Shotgun’ start and Scramble format for play. Foursomes will be assigned starting holes prior to the start of the event. Onwentsia Golf Staff will lead groups from the golf cart staging area on the Kane Plain to their assigned holes.
  • Participants should be in their assigned golf carts no later than 8:15am. The Shotgun start will commence promptly at 8:30 am.
  • Men will tee off from the Blue Tees and Women will tee off from the Yellow Tees.

Scramble Format:
  • Play for the event will be a Scramble format. Each team member in a foursome hits a tee shot on every hole. The team then collectively decides which of the four balls is in the best position to play next. After the team decides which ball is best, they mark its position; usually with a tee, a coin, a ball-marker, or whatever may seem to be luckiest for that day. Each player retrieves their ball (if it is still retrievable), and plays a shot from the new designated position. This procedure is repeated for each shot until a ball is holed.
  • Only one ball, and thus one score counts per hole for each team. The best score for each hole is added up before determining the rating of a scramble team from the total of the best shots. The team with the lowest total score for the round wins the scramble tournament.

General guidelines for Scramble Format:
  • Through the Green, each team member may place a ball within one club-length of the selected shot, not nearer the hole.  If the shot selected is in the fairway, primary rough, secondary rough, or fringe of the green, the ball must be placed in that same relative position on the course.  The lie may be improved by hand placing the ball or by moving it with the club head.
  • On the Putting Green, each team member may place a ball within four inches on either side of the selected shot, no nearer the hole.  The ball must be hand placed.  The ball is in play when the player addresses it, or if he does not address it, when he makes his next stroke.
  • The hole is completed when the first ball of the team is holed.  When any member of the team plays any ball from the position it came to rest, that is considered selection of that shot by the team.
  • Team members may stand behind one another (on an extension of the line of play) while they are hitting a shot or putting.

Special Holes/Contests:
  • Hole #1 - Malört Shot - Participants will have the opportunity to take a shot of an iconic bäsk liquor introduced by Chicago's Carl Jeppson Company in the 1930s. If a participant takes the full shot, they will be permitted to move up a tee to the next closest tee box. Shots will be administered by Co-Chair Noah Minetz’s father - a Malort expert and aficionado.
  • Hole #11 - Closest to the Pin – individual with closest tee shot to the pin will receive a gift certificate to Lululemon. There will be a tape measure, staked flag with a pad of paper attached for recording closest to the pin shots located on the green of hole 11. Participants will be responsible for recording their own closest to the pin shot information on the flag near the edge of the green if they believe their shot landed closest to the pin. Only the name of the person with the closest tee shot from each foursome should be recorded.
  • Hole #18 - Longest Drive – individual with longest drive for the event will receive a gift certificate to Club Champion. Similar to closest to the pin, there will be a staked flag in the ground with a pad of paper located on the fairway of hole 18 to record longest drive shot names. If a participant hits a drive that goes beyond the current position of the flag and lands closer to the hole, the participant will be allowed to pick up the flag and move it to the location of his or her drive and record their name on the paper. This process will be repeated throughout the day, until no participants are able to exceed the distance of the current flag position.

Food and Beverage:
  • Breakfast sandwiches, granola bars, bananas, assorted fruit, coffee, water, and Gatorade will be available on the West Terrace from 7:00 – 8:30am. Lunch will also be served from this same location from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.
